01 / The bay
Fornells sits on one of the largest natural harbours in the Mediterranean — a long, sheltered inlet on the north coast of Menorca. Flat water inside the bay makes it ideal for first days afloat, close-quarters boat handling and man-overboard drills, while open water lies only minutes beyond the entrance.
02 / The wind
The north coast is exposed to the Tramontana, so students routinely practise reefing, heavy-weather helming and passage decision-making in genuine wind rather than simulated conditions — then return to a protected anchorage the same afternoon.
03 / The cruising ground
From Fornells the coast opens to Cala Tirant, Addaia, Illa d'en Colom and Mahón to the east, with Ciutadella and the Fornells–Alcúdia crossing to Mallorca available for longer passages and mile building.
04 / Night sailing
Clearly marked harbour entrances and short hops between anchorages make Menorca well suited to night pilotage exercises and the qualifying passages required for Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster candidates.

Getting here
Fornells is roughly 30 minutes by road from Menorca Airport (MAH), which has direct seasonal flights from the UK, Ireland and mainland Europe, plus year-round connections via Barcelona and Palma. Ferries run to Mahón and Ciutadella.
The village itself is small — a working fishing harbour with restaurants, a dive centre and watersports on the bay. Accommodation is limited in high season, so book early once your course dates are confirmed.
Bring soft luggage, non-marking deck shoes, warm layers for night passages and offshore-grade sun protection. We will send a full kit list and joining instructions with your booking.
