Competent crew

Competent Crew

This course is for beginners and those who would like to become active crew members rather than just passengers.

A great start! Learn how to be useful onboard!

RYA ‘Competent Crew’ sailing course is a real ‘hands-on’ practical five day sailing course where your life for a week will be onboard. You are the crew and the yacht will sail because of you! One of our patient and friendly RYA instructors will encourage you in all aspects of life onboard, from safety to sailing, helming to parking and from man overboard drills to dropping anchor. You will learn the ropes, explore the island, enjoy the wind in your hair and finish the week exhilarated, exhausted and booking your next trip!   Experience living on board and really get to know the boat. Virtually all the course is hands on. You are the crew – without you the sails won’t go up and the boat won’t be steered. By the end of the course you should be able to steer, handle sails, keep a lookout, row a dinghy and assist in all the day to day duties on board. You should also have visited some interesting places and had an enjoyable holiday.
