Intermediate powerboat certificate

This course covers the practical use of pilotage and passage planning by day on coastal waters using both traditional and electronic navigational techniques. During the two days you also cover more advanced boat handling. It is recommended for anyone considering moving on to the Advanced course.

Assumed knowledge Boat handling to the standard of the Level 2 course with a coastal endorsement Minimum duration 2 days Age 16

Course content Planning a day cruise, boat preparation, boat handling, pilotage, passage making, man overboard Ability after the course Able to plan and execute short coastal passages by day

Entry Requirements: Min age 16 – Physically fit

A tender drivers certificate required to operate in Northern Mediteranean waters.

Theory and practical including:

” Safety at sea
VHF Radio operations
Small powerboats and rigid inflatable boats
Launching and recovery
Anchors and anchoring
Nautical terminology
Boat handling under power
Man overboard procedures
Basic navigation and pilotage
Basic rules of the road (collision regulations)

Day 2 Practical applications including:

” Slow and high speed turns
” Close quarters manouvering
” Docking under average conditions
” Departing dock or mooring
” Beaching
” MOB procedures

Limitations:

Covers vessels up to 15m (45′)
Driven by outboard motors
In fair weather,
No horsepower limitations
No accommodation,
Up to 20 miles from a safe haven.

This RYA certificate can be commercially endorsed if required with additional short courses.
